Do you ever work on something and get lost in the moment? Have you ever enjoyed doing something so much that when you enter the zone, you focus on that and nothing else? Do you run out of energy and momentum, or do you push through and complete the project?
It can be challenging to maintain a posture of excellence when you are working on something that isn't thrilling. But we are all called and admonished to do this work unto the Lord, and to do it to the best of our ability.
Integrity involves your actions of good when no one is watching. Even if you are underappreciated at work in a high-powered career, or underappreciated at home as a homemaker, be encouraged. Your identity is not tied to the work you do, but your integrity is tied to who you are.
Do all things with enthusiasm and excellence, and do them for the glory of God.
Jesus was a carpenter. It was difficult work, challenging and at times tedious. He had all of this wealth of knowledge, talent and skill- he was God in the flesh. Yet he was tasked with building and maintaining houses, manual labor. In fact, Jesus' ministry did not begin until he was 30 years of age and lasted for just 3 years. Yet this carpenter and carpenter's son of Joseph had a greater impact on the world than any other human being before him or after him. Just as Jesus was challenged to exercise meekness, even though he was all-powerful, so should we exercise restraint in believing that we are above other people or certain kinds of work.
The important thing to remember is that excellence is the key. No matter where we start, what is important is that we finish and finish the journey with integrity.
Be lifted up and encouraged to go forth and embrace excellence as a way of life and daily practice.
