Stillness requires patience to generate desired results, but it ultimately nourishes the soul.
If you could speak to your younger self, what would you say to that person? Did you follow your own song? Did you stay true to what you feel God calling you to do on the inside? If you didn’t, perhaps you would tell your younger self: “You don’t have to follow the crowd. Focus on what really matters.” What really matters is what quenches your soul, which is your truest form of yourself, and lives on long after your body dies.
Jesus is the bishop and lover of your soul. Perhaps you have walked away from a lot of opportunities to fit in in order to strike out on your own. There is an inner calling inside of all of us. It is a calling that is often misunderstood by others. It is a calling that only God himself understands because he placed it in you before the foundation of the world. That is comforting: that although you come through the vehicle of your parents’ particular egg and sperm meeting to create your particular DNA, you ultimately come from God, who is the father of us all. Be encouraged to walk towards your future and destiny with grace and power, knowing that God equips you.
This world will try to talk you out of your truth: what you know you are called to do. It doesn’t have to be big by societal standards: it could be adopting an orphan, or volunteering at a shelter. It could be nursing animals back to health, or reading to the shut-in and elderly. It is something that alleviates pain in the world, and something that you feel passionate about. These things are big to God. Your job on earth is to find out what that calling is and pursue it with gusto. May you be encouraged to follow your own path, even when it is unconventional to the world.
Excerpt from Jae Magazine Winter 2015 Issue and The Power of Being, Confession point for Resisting Temptation to Give Up Your Soul for Earthly Gain: Acts 19:24-27 “For a certain man named Demetrius, a silversmith, who made silver shrines of Diana, brought no little business unto the craftsmen; whom he gathered together, with the workmen of like occupation, and said, Sirs, ye know that by this business we have our wealth. And ye see and hear, that not alone at Ephesus, but almost throughout all Asia, this Paul hath persuaded and turned away much people, saying that they are no gods, that are made with hands: and not only is there danger that this our trade come into disrepute; but also that the temple of the great goddess Diana be made of no account, and that she should even be deposed from her magnificence whom all Asia and the world worshippeth.” Full financial scriptures on this topic also available from In Defense of Stillness by Author Jae Elizabeth.
